Senior Chinese political advisor visits Suriname

PARAMARIBO, Oct. 12 (Xinhua) -- Bater, vice chairperson of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), led a delegation to visit Suriname from Sunday to Monday.

During the visit, Bater met with Surinamese President Jennifer Simons and Speaker of the National Assembly Ashwin Adhin.

Since the establishment of diplomatic relations, China-Suriname relations have developed steadily, with cooperation yielding fruitful results, Bater said.

In May this year, Chinese President Xi Jinping and President Simons exchanged congratulatory messages on the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, charting the course for the development of bilateral relations, he said.

Bater noted that China is willing to work with Suriname to implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, enhance strategic mutual trust, carry forward traditional friendship, and promote the development of the China-Suriname strategic cooperative partnership, adding that the CPPCC is ready to play an active role in this regard.

Highlighting the continuous deepening of bilateral relations over the past 50 years since the establishment of diplomatic ties, the Surinamese side said the friendship between the two countries is solid and profound, and that strategic cooperation has grown increasingly close.

The Surinamese side stated its commitment to adhering to the one-China principle, maintaining close high-level exchanges with China, strengthening exchanges on governance, and expanding cooperation in various fields to benefit the two peoples.
