China responds to possible US spending increase to counter China's influence

BEIJING, July 28 (Xinhua) -- The development of state-to-state relations and cooperation should not target any third party, Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said Tuesday.

Lin made the remarks at a regular news briefing when asked to comment on reports that the United States plans to boost its spending by hundreds of millions of dollars to counter China's rising influence in the Americas, Africa and Asia.

Noting that China has always opposed the formation of exclusive groupings, Lin said China's cooperation with other countries and regions, especially with developing countries, is not about wooing or rivaling anyone, but about jointly safeguarding world peace, promoting global development, upholding the international order, and building a community with a shared future for humanity.
