China to offer additional aid to quake-hit Venezuela

BEIJING, June 29 (Xinhua) -- China has decided to offer additional aid to Venezuela for post-quake relief and reconstruction, a Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson said here on Monday.

The additional emergency material assistance is worth 100 million yuan (about 14.67 million U.S. dollars), following the cash assistance that has already been provided, spokesperson Guo Jiakun made the remarks at a daily press briefing.

Noting China is closely following the severity of the earthquakes in Venezuela, Guo said China also provided satellite imagery to the quake zones for disaster response operations.

Chinese companies and associations of overseas Chinese in Venezuela voluntarily provided urgently needed machinery and medical supplies and set up rescue teams to actively search for survivors, said Guo, adding China stands ready to offer more support as the disaster response progresses.
