MUNICH, Germany, Feb. 14 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Saturday that China is ready to work with the Czech Republic to bring bilateral relations back to the track of healthy development and make up for lost time.
Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks during a meeting with Czech Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Petr Macinka at the latter's request on the sidelines of the ongoing Munich Security Conference.
Noting that this year marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the China-Czech strategic partnership, Wang said that while the two countries enjoy a tradition of friendship, bilateral ties have experienced twists and turns in recent years, which serves the interests of neither side.
China appreciates the new Czech government's proactive commitment to improving relations with China, Wang said, adding that China is willing to jointly push for an early return to healthy and stable development of the bilateral ties.
Wang expressed hope that the Czech side will establish a correct perception of China, earnestly abide by the one-China principle, and respect China's core interests.
He urged both sides to encourage exchanges at all levels and in various fields, and enhance mutual understanding and trust, laying a solid foundation for pragmatic cooperation.
For his part, Macinka called China a global power and said the Czech Republic treasures the traditional friendship between the two nations.
Taking the 10th anniversary of the strategic partnership as an opportunity, the Czech Republic looks forward to opening a new chapter in bilateral relations, Macinka said.
He emphasized that the Czech Republic is firmly committed to the one-China policy.
He said the Czech Republic recognizes the People's Republic of China as the sole legal government representing the whole of China, and respects as well as supports China in safeguarding its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The Czech side expects to improve ties with China, resume high-level exchanges, and advance cooperation in areas such as economy and trade, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges, he added.
