China expresses condolences over casualties in Portgual funicular accident: FM spokesperson

BEIJING, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) -- China extends deep condolences to the victims of the funicular derailing accident that occurred in Lisbon, Portugal, Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said on Friday.

"We express deep sorrow for the victims, extend sincere condolences to their families, and wish the injured a speedy recovery," Guo told a regular news briefing.

According to reports, at least 16 people have died and 21 were injured in the accident on Wednesday at a popular tourist attraction in the capital city of Portugal.
