Development
March 2013
President Xi first proposed the vision of building a community with a shared future for humanity in March 2013 during a speech at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations.
September 2013
In September 2013, President Xi first proposed building the Silk Road Economic Belt during a speech at Nazarbayev University in Astana, Kazakhstan. The following month, he introduced the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road concept, which later became part of the Belt and Road Initiative alongside the Silk Road Economic Belt.
September 2015
President Xi said that peace, development, equality, justice, democracy and freedom are common values of humanity during his September 2015 address to the 70th United Nations General Assembly.
October 2015
In October 2015, President Xi outlined a vision of global governance that features extensive consultation and joint contribution for shared benefit while presiding over the 27th group study session of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee.
January 2017
President Xi proposed creating an open, inclusive, clean and beautiful world that enjoys lasting peace, universal security and shared prosperity during his January 2017 speech at the U.N. Office in Geneva, aiming to promote the building of a community with a shared future for humanity.
October 2017
In October 2017, the report to the 19th CPC National Congress stated that China remains firm in its commitment to forging a new form of international relations featuring mutual respect, fairness, justice and win-win cooperation.
September 2021
President Xi proposed the Global Development Initiative and called for jointly building a global community of development during his September 2021 address to the 76th U.N. General Assembly.
April 2022
In April 2022, President Xi proposed the Global Security Initiative, advocating the vision of common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable security at the opening ceremony of the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference.
March 2023
In March 2023, President Xi put forward the Global Civilization Initiative at the CPC in Dialogue with World Political Parties High-Level Meeting.
September 2025
President Xi proposed the Global Governance Initiative at the "Shanghai Cooperation Organization Plus" Meeting in Tianjin on Sept. 1, 2025.
Achievements
Bilateral Level
China has signed bilateral agreements to build communities of shared future with more than 30 countries, including Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, South Africa, Nigeria, Cuba, Brazil and Serbia.
Regional Level
At the regional level, China has advanced communities of shared future with Africa, Central Asia, ASEAN, Arab states and Latin America and the Caribbean, covering over 85% of the global population. China has also established bilateral and multilateral shared future partnerships with all Indochina Peninsula countries and the five Central Asian nations.
Global Governance
China is advancing global governance cooperation across multiple domains, pursuing communities of shared future in such areas as cyberspace, nuclear security, health, environmental protection, maritime affairs, outer space, development, and security.
International Influence
As of July 2025, the shared future vision has been incorporated into U.N. General Assembly resolutions and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit declarations for eight consecutive years, and into BRICS summit declarations on eight occasions, with its core tenets included in the U.N.'s "Pact for the Future." More than 100 countries and international organizations support the vision, making it a major international public good with great symbolic significance in today's world.
