OTTAWA, June 27 (Xinhua) -- Canada stands ready to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with China, Governor General of Canada Mary Simon said.
Simon made the remarks on Wednesday when she welcomed Wang Di, the new Chinese ambassador, who presented his letter of credence to the governor general, according to a news release from the Chinese embassy in Canada on Thursday.
Highlighting that China is a major country with global influence and an important trading partner for Canada, Simon said Canada will move forward the bilateral relations to bring more benefits to the two peoples.
For his part, Wang said that in the past 54 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, China and Canada have had fruitful practical cooperation in various fields, which has brought tangible benefits to the two peoples.
China attaches importance to its relations with Canada and stands ready to work with Canada to promote healthy and stable development of the bilateral relations on the basis of mutual respect, seeking common ground while putting aside differences, and win-win cooperation, said the ambassador.
Wang arrived in Canada on May 24, according to the news release.
