Senior Chinese diplomat meets Madagascan FM

BEIJING, June 30 (Xinhua) -- Wang Yi, director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, met with Yvette Sylla, foreign minister of Madagascar, on Friday in Beijing.

Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, said that China and Madagascar have always respected each other, treated each other as equals and carried out mutually beneficial cooperation, and bilateral relations have maintained a steady development momentum.

China highly appreciates Madagascar's adherence to the one-China principle and firmly supports Madagascar in safeguarding its national sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, and in exploring a development path suited to its own national conditions, Wang said.

China is willing to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, deepen people-to-people friendships, and open up new prospects for China-Madagascar relations, Wang added.

Sylla said that Madagascar firmly adheres to the one-China principle, and supports and is willing to actively participate in the Belt and Road Initiative and a series of important global initiatives proposed by China.
