This is an editorial from China Daily.

About one week after the G7 Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Karuizawa, Japan, the top diplomats of the United Kingdom, Japan and the European Union have made almost the same irresponsible and rash remarks on the Taiwan question, essentially parroting those that have become common utterances of the United States secretary of state.

So has ROK President Yoon Suk-yeol, who shortly before starting his week-long visit to the US on Monday, alleged that the Taiwan question is a global issue in a bid to justify external intervention led by the US.

With the US intent on turning the Taiwan question into a touchstone for the loyalty of other countries, it is clear that Washington has been acting as the director, scriptwriter and sponsor of this ugly show collectively staged by its allies. A show that exposes the extent to which they are willing to sacrifice their strategic autonomy and national interests to toe Washington's line.

Upholding the one-China principle and not supporting "Taiwan independence" are solemn promises all these countries, including the US, have made upon the founding of their diplomatic relations with China. And these promises are also key issues of principle that constitute part of the political foundation of the postwar system laid down in the Cairo Declaration and the Potsdam Proclamation.

As Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said in a news conference on the issue on Monday, these politicians need to dust off their history books.

There is only one China in the world and Taiwan is an inalienable part of China.

The one-China principle is a prevailing consensus among the international community and a basic norm in international relations affirmed in Resolution 2758 of the 26th session of the UN General Assembly.

No matter how much obfuscating clamor the US club makes it cannot change the nature of the Taiwan question being a strictly internal affair of China nor Taiwan's status as an inalienable part of China.

The resolution of Taiwan question is a matter for the Chinese people. No external force has any right to interfere in that. All the cheerleaders in the US club should approach this key matter of principle with a clear head and ample prudence.

Beijing's policy on dealing with the Taiwan question is very clear. That is, to strive for peaceful reunification with utmost efforts and sincerity. This policy has not changed. All peace-loving nations must resolutely oppose "Taiwan independence", as the more encouragement the secessionists on the island receive, the less likely the peaceful settlement of the Taiwan question will be.

If those parties hyping up the imminent possibility of the mainland resorting to force to realize reunification really hope for a peaceful settlement of the Taiwan question, they should adopt a clear attitude to stop all acts in support of "Taiwan independence". Otherwise, all their reckless provocations will only backfire, making them the parties taking the initiative to change the status quo of the Strait.
