BEIJING, April 18 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang met with COP28 UAE President-Designate Sultan Al Jaber in Beijing on Tuesday.

Ding, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said that China has made a solemn pledge to strive to peak carbon dioxide emissions before 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality before 2060, which shows China's active participation in global governance in response to climate change.

Ding said China will work actively and prudently toward the goals of reaching peak carbon emissions and carbon neutrality and continue to contribute to climate change response.

China hopes that the 28th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP28) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change will firmly uphold multilateralism, focus on implementation and send a positive signal to the international community of cooperation on climate change response through practical actions and promote the comprehensive and effective implementation of the Paris Agreement, Ding added.

Jaber said that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) highly appreciates China's leadership in addressing global challenges and China's achievement in green and low-carbon development.

He added that the UAE hopes to work with China to enhance communication and cooperation to jointly promote the success of the COP28 to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, which will be held in Dubai, the UAE.
