PREAH SIHANOUK, CAMBODIA, April 22 (Xinhua) -- The east China's Jiangsu Province-based Wuxi Institute of Technology of Jiangsu Province on Friday ran a skills development course for Cambodian employees at various enterprises in the Sihanoukville Special Economic Zone (SSEZ) in the southwestern coastal province of Preah Sihanouk.

The course was held in cooperation with the Preah Sihanouk Cambodia-China Friendship Polytechnic Institute (PSCCFPI), Wuxi Institute of Technology of Jiangsu Province and Sihanoukville Special Economy Zone Co., Ltd. under the South-South Cooperation Skills Development Network Project.

Lectured via video link by Jiang Sheng, a trainer on electricity, the half-day course, which focused on generation operation management, was attended by some 30 employees from a thermal power plant, the PSCCFPI and the SSEZ.

Yin Rady, a 37-year-old technician at the thermal power plant in the SSEZ, said the course is essential to enhance the knowledge and skills of employees and to improve productivity levels.

"I feel motivated that the company has selected me for this important course, it gives me an opportunity to further develop my skills and expertise," he told Xinhua via telephone.

Sen Keara, a 27-year-old Khmer Chinese translator at the plant, said the course was also useful for office staff, saying that it helped enhance her ability to adapt to new technology and methods.

"It's the first time I take part in such a skills development course. It not only helps improve my skills and expertise, but also contributes to increasing the company's productivity and work efficiency in the long term," she said.

It was the second course for employees at enterprises in the SSEZ after the first one was held on March 12.

A series of these courses are part of the South-South Cooperation Skills Development Network Project, which was launched in November 2021 by technical and vocational education and training institutes from China, Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar.

This project aims to improve the employability of workers and increase the productivity of enterprises through better quality of employment services, skills development and institutional capacity building.
