BEIJING, April 3 (Xinhua) -- More "rational, calm and positive" voices are needed at the current stage in the face of COVID-19, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said Friday.

Hua made the remarks when asked to comment on an open letter from 100 Chinese scholars to the people of the United States, calling for global solidarity and cooperation.

The open letter, published on The Diplomat magazine, said that the effort to overcome both the pandemic and its impact would be "nothing short of a long-term and arduous global war," and countries should work together, instead of "complaining, finger-pointing, and blaming one another."

Citing that the pandemic is a global public health crisis "with a horrific scale not seen in generations," Hua said China, like other countries with outbreaks, was a victim of the virus.

"Only through solidarity and cooperation among people of the world can we finally achieve the ultimate victory in fighting the epidemic," Hua said.
