DHAKA, April 2 (Xinhua) -- China Harbour Engineering Company Limited (CHEC), a subsidiary of the state-owned infrastructure giant China Communications Construction Company Ltd., has extended support to Bangladesh in combating the COVID-19 outbreak.
CHEC donated 3,000 COVID-19 detection kits, 3,000 PPEs (Personal Protective Equipment) and 20,000 surgical masks for use in Bangladesh different hospitals in Dhaka on Wednesday.
Fu Xiuquan, managing director of CHEC Bangladesh, formally handed over the diagnostic kits and prevention materials to Habibur Rahman Khan, additional secretary of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, and Brigadier General Shafiq, director of Bangladesh's Central Medical Stores Depot.
"Coronavirus has been spreading rapidly across the world, at this crucial moment we are very willing to stand beside our Bangladeshi friends together fighting against this virus. We have been developing over 30 years along with Bangladesh and we are concerned with both Bangladesh people and this country's development, as a social responsibility company, our donation is a symbol of our commitment to the country," said Fu.
Habibur Rahman Khan thanked CHEC for the donation of the company.
"These goods will be distributed to various hospitals from Central Medical Stores Depot. Chinese Government and other Chinese organizations have come forward to help Bangladesh in its fight against COVID-19. Hope they will extend their support future as well," he said.
CHEC has got involved in construction of several livelihood Bangladesh projects including the Dhaka-Khulna (N-8) Highway project and investment of Chinese Economic & Industrial Zone project in the past few years.
