DAMASCUS, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) -- Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi's recent visit to China's Taiwan region was mainly a propaganda and media stunt, Bouthaina Shaaban, special advisor to the Syrian presidency, has said.
Like in Hollywood movies, the United States always cares about its image and appearance, for which it took such a reckless step as Pelosi's visit, Shaaban said in a recent interview with Xinhua.
Shaaban said she believed that the visit was aimed at giving an impression that the United States is on top of everything in the world.
The advisor noted that the one-China principle has been a broad consensus of the international community, saying that China has proven capable of tackling the situation.
With regard to the steps taken by China after the visit, including the military exercises and sanctions against Pelosi, the advisor said China showed its wisdom and capability in dealing with such arrogance.
She also said that the United States cannot be trusted, as it speaks something and acts the opposite.
The world has become fed up with the language of hegemony the United States has been using all these years, Shaaban said, adding that China is a great country that speaks a language of sharing, cooperation and morals, instead of the language of hegemony.
