Chinese FM elaborates on China's view on Afghan issue

TASHKENT, July 29 (Xinhua) -- Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Friday elaborated on China's view on the Afghan issue when attending the meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Tashkent.

Afghanistan is now in a critical period of overcoming chaos and establishing governance, with the situation there generally moving toward stability but still facing many challenges, Wang noted.

The SCO should adhere to contact and dialogue, and encourage the establishment of an inclusive government, which is expected to adopt prudent policies in its work as well, said Wang.

The regional body should also continue to help Afghanistan to handle risks and overcome difficulties, and assist the country in improving people's livelihood and restoring its economy, he said.

The SCO should jointly fight terrorism and urge Afghanistan to eliminate all terrorist forces in the country, Wang said, adding the organization will adhere to multilateral coordination and build more consensus among countries in the region.

Recalling the severe earthquake hitting Afghanistan earlier, Wang noted that China has provided humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people through various channels.

He added that China will work with other SCO member states to help the Afghan people overcome the current difficulties and support Afghanistan in actively exploring a development path that suits its national conditions and conforms to the trend of the times.
