BEIJING, Sept. 30 (Xinhua) -- The United Kingdom's increasing military deployment in the Asia-Pacific region year-to-date is detrimental to regional peace and stability, said a Chinese defense ministry spokesperson on Thursday.
Wu Qian, spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defense, made the remarks at a press conference in response to an inquiry on the British military's growing presence in the Asia-Pacific region.
Facing increasing global challenges, China and the UK should enhance exchanges and cooperation, which is not only in the common interests of the two countries, but also conducive to world peace, stability and development, Wu said.
The Chinese armed forces will take necessary measures to safeguard national sovereignty, security and development interests, as well as to maintain peace, stability and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region, Wu added.
