KAMPALA, March 31 (Xinhua) -- Uganda's Minister of Foreign Affairs Sam Kutesa said on Wednesday that the Communist Party of China (CPC) has set an example for the world.

Noting that the CPC has succeeded in lifting millions of people out of poverty, Kutesa called it "a sterling example to copy," adding that "our continued relationship will get us also to move our own people out of poverty."

Kutesa was responding to a question by Xinhua while receiving a donation of 70 sports utility vehicles from China.

The official said Africa and Uganda in particular have reaped benefits from the CPC's governance.

"We appreciate the relationship we have maintained with the People's Republic of China since 1949. They participated in the liberation struggles of Africa, in our anti-colonial wars, and now they are a leading country in participating in our economic emancipation," the minister said.

"We have now elevated our relationship to comprehensive cooperative partnership level which is different from ordinary relationship, and this is because of the work that the CPC has been doing," Kutesa said.

Noting China has financed Uganda's major infrastructure development projects including hydropower stations, roads and expansion of the Entebbe International Airport, Kutesa said those projects coupled with Chinese-invested industrial parks are geared towards fast-tracking the country's development.
