China firmly opposes US arms sales to Taiwan

BEIJING, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese mainland spokesperson on Wednesday voiced firm opposition to U.S. arms sales to China's Taiwan region.

Zhu Fenglian, a spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, made the remarks when asked about the U.S. government's approval of a plan to sell four MQ-9B military drones worth about 600 million U.S. dollars to China's Taiwan region.

Zhu urged the U.S. side to abide by the one-China principle and the three China-U.S. joint communiques, especially the August 17 Communique, and stop the arms sales.

"The U.S. arms sales to Taiwan will only undermine the peace across the Taiwan Strait and send a wrong signal to 'Taiwan independence' forces," said Zhu, adding that the Democratic Progressive Party authority's move of counting on military force to seek "Taiwan independence" will only bring disaster to people on the island.
