BEIJING, July 8 (Xinhua) -- Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Wednesday attended a high-level public video conference of the United Nations (UN) Security Council on the Libya issue and propounded four ideas on behalf of the Chinese side in helping Libya to restore peace at an early date.

First is to promote a comprehensive ceasefire and stop the violence. Wang said that China called for an immediate cessation of hostilities of all parties in Libya and urged all countries to effectively implement Security Council resolutions.

Second is to stick to the direction of political settlement, which is the only way out for the Libya issue, said Wang, adding that China called on all parties to return to the right track of dialogue, adhere to the principle of Libyan-led and Libyan-owned, support the UN as a main channel of mediation, and give full play to the role of regional organizations such as the Arab League and the African Union in achieving a political settlement of the Libya issue.

Third is to eliminate the spillover effects of the Libya crisis to prevent Libya from becoming the breeding soil of terrorism.

Fourth is to uphold the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, said Wang, adding that this is an important prerequisite for the Security Council to effectively fulfill its duty and a forceful guarantee to safeguard international peace and security.

China always takes an objective and fair stand on the Libya issue and insists on a political resolution of the Libya issue led by the UN, said Wang, adding that China is ready to work with all parties to help Libyan people to embrace the dawn of peace and embark on the road of development.
